About Us
Built by people who believe in this work.
Life Lab LA was founded on a simple idea: individualized support, authentic connection, and meaningful opportunities should be the standard, not the exception.
Our Story
Why Life Lab exists.
Life Lab LA was founded by Justin Katona and Max Blum, two Board Certified Behavior Analysts who shared a vision: to build something meaningful together and bring thoughtful, individualized services to communities that deserve greater access to quality support.
What started with a shared passion for this work has grown into something much bigger. We believe clinical expertise and genuine human connection belong together. Our approach is grounded in compassion, curiosity, humor, and a deep respect for the individuals and families we serve.
Some of our proudest moments happen outside of traditional therapy settings: watching friendships develop, seeing someone discover a new interest, or creating opportunities for individuals to experience their communities in new ways.
Through partnerships with local businesses and organizations across Los Angeles, we're building a growing network of experiences, relationships, and opportunities that extend beyond our services.
Because to us, meaningful progress isn't just about learning new skills. It's about building a life filled with connection, independence, and possibility.
Meet the Founders
The people behind Life Lab.
Justin Katona
M.S., BCBA, Co-Founder
A Los Angeles native, former collegiate athlete, and researcher in sports medicine and neuroscience, Justin brings an uncommon lens to behavioral support. His path into clinical work was shaped by the same principles he learned in competition: meaningful progress is built through consistency, adaptability, and a willingness to show up for the hard parts.
With more than eight years of clinical experience, Justin specializes in adaptive skills training, behavioral consultation, executive functioning, and transition-age programming for neurodivergent adolescents and adults. His approach is straightforward: help people identify their strengths, build confidence through real success, and create lives centered around independence and purpose.
Max Blum
M.S., BCBA, Co-Founder
Growing up in Los Angeles as a congenital below-the-knee amputee, Max experienced firsthand the challenges and stigmas of being different, especially in social settings and through his deep passion for sports and athletics. Those early experiences shaped a lifelong commitment to inclusion and adaptation, principles that have guided him as a competitive adaptive athlete and throughout his career.
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst with over a decade of experience, Max specializes in behavioral consultation and adaptive skills training for neurodivergent adults. He takes pride in a person-centered approach that empowers individuals to develop essential social skills, build confidence, and pursue their passions to their full potential.
